SUMMIT MILLS A small village in the southern part of the township, Summit Mills was laid out by Joseph J. Yoder in 1830. He wished to call the village "Mechanicsburg", but when the post office was established, it took the name of Summit Mills. Joseph J. Yoder (Axie Yoder) was the best axe maker who ever lived in western Pennsylvania.
