The incision model (Fig. A, B) is a circular incision approximately 3–4 mm deep through the epidermis and dermis that transects the dermal plexus of nerve fibers but leaves in place a vertical cylinder of denervated skin. At predetermined intervals the remaining cores can be rebiopsied using a 4 or 5 mm circular punch, overlapping the previously incised areas (Rajan et al., 2003).
